Approving a finish needs more detail than ‘the same colour as the photo’. Lighting, screens and materials affect appearance. An approved reference reduces disagreements, especially for showroom batches.
Separate colour, texture and gloss
Specify colour, gloss level, texture and decorative details. Similar colour does not mean an identical finish if gloss or decoration differs. Discuss areas with natural material variation and whether the aim is greater visual uniformity or visible grain.
Review references under suitable lighting
A clear photo can establish direction, but physical samples are better for colour-sensitive projects. For remote approval, request several photos and a clear finish description. Avoid final decisions based on one photograph with coloured lighting or filters.
Repeating colours in trade orders
Link the reference to the design code and specifications and define how later batches will be checked. Differences are more visible in adjacent pieces, so explain the showroom arrangement. Discuss the timing and cost of finish changes after approval before implementation.
