Furniture Inspection Before Delivery: A Checklist for Individuals and Dealers
A good inspection compares the piece with agreed specifications rather than general appearance. Review quantities, dimensions, function and finishes in order, and clearly record observations before acceptance.
Check quantities, dimensions and function
Match each piece to the order list and inspect key measurements and door and drawer openings. Test movement and seating appropriately without unsuitable stress tests. For batches, use a code for each design to distinguish similar pieces.
Review finishes and upholstery
Inspect colour, texture, edges, visible joints, fabric cleanliness and stitching consistency. Lighting and screens make phone-only colour judgments difficult, so an approved sample helps. Discuss variation against written acceptance limits rather than expectations that were never stated.
Document each observation and its location
An overall photo and a close-up with a short description are better than a vague message. Distinguish design differences, manufacturing defects and transport damage, as they may require different remedies. A manufacturing warranty does not automatically cover every form of damage after dispatch.
